James McAdoo, fresh off a starring role with USA Basketball's U-16 national team, will undergo surgery today to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.
The 6-foot-8, 210-pound McAdoo averaged 16.6 points and 8.6 rebounds in his team's gold medal-winning performance in the FIBA Americas Championships in Argentina three weeks ago.
His father, Ronnie McAdoo, confirmed that James injured the shoulder while grabbing a rebound in the championship game.
He likened the injury to that of Jameer Nelson, the Orlando Magic point guard who missed most of the recent season, returning during the championship round of the NBA playoffs.
"He's hurt, and he'll be out for four to five months," Ronnie McAdoo said.
James McAdoo, who is a rising junior at Norfolk Christian, is ranked as one of the top five players in his class nationally by a number of national scouting reports.
His summer schedule would have included a series of tournaments, including the nationals in Orlando, Fla., with the Boo Williams AAU team. He was also planning to attend a number of high profile camps, including the LeBron James Camp that was held last week.
"At least he has that one really big feather in his cap from winning in Argentina," Ronnie McAdoo said.

I predict that McAdoo will commit to Duke in the next 3 months!

I base that on what I've read on the internet. I'm just a fan. I'm not
an expert. I don't have any inside knowledge! Would you need any inside knowledge to make this prediction? I base it on what similar caliber players his size from the state of Virginia have done for the past 20 years since Coach K arrived there, and by the fact that the informal verbal commitment "period" for players has moved up in the past decade.
