VIRGINIA BEACH

A suspicious fire destroyed a playground this morning near Midway Manor Navy housing, fire officials said.

The fire, located in a common area in the 1000 block of McCluskey Place, caused $40,000 in damage, said Battalion Chief Tim Riley, a spokesman for the fire department. Firefighters responded to the scene shortly before 9:30 a.m., he said.

There were no injuries and no children on-site at the time, Riley said.

The fire is under investigation. Anyone with information should call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
