RICHMOND

A woman from the Prince William Health District who was diagnosed with H1N1 virus, or swine flu, died, according to a news release from the Virginia Department of Health.

Although the cause of death has not been confirmed, swine flu appears to have been a factor. The patient had an underlying health condition that put her at greater risk of complications from the flu. The state did not release any more information about the woman.

This is the third death in Virginia believed to be related to swine flu.

The first swine flu death in Virginia occurred last month in Chesapeake. April Wilson, a 34-year-old woman, died June 2. She was a resident of the Southeastern Virginia Training Center, a facility for people with severe disabilities. An Arlington man was the second swine flu death.

Nationwide, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was reporting 263 deaths caused by the virus.
