The weekend follies

The man, the myth, the legend...
Lots to do this weekend. A sampling:
FRI
Norfolk Jazz Festival is, as Edina Monsoon of "Ab Fab" would say, giving you "names, names, names!" this weekend. Sadly representatives from the houses Eddie name drops -- "Chanel, Dior, Lagerfield, Givenchy, Cartier..I'm chanting sweetie" -- won't be on hand but Lonnie Liston Smith and Hiroshima are fantastic substitutes.
" Alternative" phenom Neko Case is at the NorVa
Bill Bellamy brings his comedy to the Funny Bone. Y'all should go support; you know that Greyhound ride from L.A. was brutal. I keed, I keed! He's actually quite underrated and he always keeps it classy. I'm a fan...
SAT
Bob Baldwin, Jean Carne and George Duke play the Norf Jazz Fest. Names, names, names!
*pick of the week* Why does everyone I talk to about the Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp show make a dinosaur joke? Y'all are dead wrong. Willie and Bob are LEGENDS in the game, and Harbor Park is such an unorthodox venue for a show; I wouldn't miss this if I were you. I mean, how many times will be you be able to say you saw Willie Nelson and Bod freekin Dylan? In the same night? At a baseball stadium? Show some respect, whipper snappers!
Here's a good one: What Can You Do With Duct Tape? Crafts for tweens and teens at the Little Creek Branch Library in Norfolk. Sounds neat. People can do some amazing things with duct tape. I'm guessing, however that "bound someone's hands and feet together so it's easier to fit them in the trunk of a compact car" won't be on the list...
MONDAY
*pick of the week* Maxwell is going to shut Chrysler Hall down. Looking forward to this show myself. Ladies, I hope that underwear you plan on throwing on stage is clean. Also Chrisette Michelle is opening; we love her. Might still be some tickets left for that show I hear; hit up the box office.

You are in for a treat with Maxwell
OMG Malcolm, I saw Maxwell Fri. night in Atlantic City and he did not dissappoint! I have seen him like five other times previously and he is still one of the best live performers of our time. He was admittedly "a little shook" because none other than the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin was in the audience, but he still did his thing. He acknowledged her several times, calling her a "national treasure" and admitting that he was a little shy about talking his usual talk with her in attendance, but she gave him the go-ahead and it was on! And yes, someone did through some panties on stage during "Til the Cops Come Knockin" (couldn't tell if it was staged or not)and he picked them up, whipped them around his finger and stuffed them in his pocket. His band is the BEST and Chrisette Michelle was on point too. Let us know how tonight goes. Or, you may see me loitering around the Hall just in case some single guy has an extra ticket and no date - I can't get enough :-}
