Companies help Chesapeake widow with new driveway

Posted to: Chesapeake News

After reading about the plight of Frances Ousaklidis, the 70-year-old Chesapeake widow swindled out of a driveway, half a dozen companies offered to give her one for free.

Norfolk-based Titan America began work at Ousaklidis' Fontana Court home on Wednesday. Greco Concrete Construction in Virginia Beach gave her a check for $1,500 – the amount she paid the man who promised concrete but delivered only wet rock.

The good deeds made her cry. “My Mama always said, ‘Do good for evil and you’ll reap coals of fire on their head,’” she said.

Well Done!

I think it was sporting of Titan America and Greco Concrete and the public to help this lady out. Thank you!

New Driveway

My family and I have known this lady for years. I didn't hear about this until it made the papers and I was so disturbed that two young people would take advantage of a 70 year old Woman. This could have happen to someone elses grandparents/parent. There are still some people that put trust in others (and have faith that people do good) when our society is teaching us otherwise. She made the mistake of giving up money with having faith to trust these people & they abused it. By the Grace of God, she got the money back with the help of good samaritians. It is awesome how so many people offered to assist her regardless of her mistake. I pray God blesses those companies who offered and the people who assisted her. As for the people who don't think she deserved it, I hope someone is there to help you back on your feet if you or your parents/grandparents ever make a mistake by trusting someone. As for the people who took advantage of her, God will take care of them.

Good came out of something evil

My now deceased Mother, had her purse stolen in a Food Lion parking lot off of Military Highway years ago. She was also given $200 by probably the same agency that helped this elderly woman. What is so bad that a measley $200 can't be given to help elderly people that fall victim to being ripped off, stolen from? Blessings to those that gave her $1500 back (what do you want, her to return the $200 now?). And good to those that are replacing the botched up job and giving her a new driveway. There is still good out there is this evil world. I'm happy for her. She lived in this house since she was 25? My mom lived in her Chesapeake home since she was 21 y.o. until her death at 77. Come on now people. Rejoice that this elderly lady is getting her money back, and a new driveway.

You Rock Ms. Ousakididis!

From a business perspective, Ms. Ousakididis has done pretty darn well.

Let's recap... In the last week she’s has gotten a free driveway, her initial investment of $1,500 returned and a $200 profit check the Chesapeake Sheriff's Department from a fund set up for elderly and indigent crime victims.

Did I miss anything?

from a business perspective

Great job businesses, that's what we should be doing and RicknChes you are missing the whole point. It's not that she made a mistake and got ripped off, its that a community and businesses in the community stepped up to the plate to fix a wrong doing by an evil doer. That's what we are suppose to do as humans and society, check deep inside are you jealous? So what if the companies get free press, they should, it is the outcome from being compassionate people that work and live in their community.

Rick to you and the other negative commentors: Did you lose out on something by all this? I never heard of public funds being used to fix all the driveways, except the $200 from a system set up just for this.(and who says that was public funds either) Be happy for the person and our society, next time it could be your mother needing help.

I want a new driveway....

in a couple of years. I will definitely remember these companies.

Driveway

Yeah, that was pretty cool. Normally, I would tend to agree with the first poster, but something tells me that the efforts by these companies and workers were genuine. Man, I hope they catch those who did this to that woman. I am certain that any judge in Hampton Roads will burn those guys a new a$$HOLE. Even though I live out of state now I will watch to see if these guys are caught and what their punishment will be. I think it is predictable.

Thanks

You do something good for a person and you are a sucker? God lead these company's to this woman regardless of the press or publicity they are getting, good only follows good. Thank you for helping her it brings a tear to my eye to see this happening. Goodwill goes a very long way in the hearts and minds of folks; it instills a lot of trust and confidence.

lesson learned

first I do something stupid, get riped off and cry to the press. Then some company that wants good press will give me back my money plus give me what I wanted that should have cost twice what I paid.
Theres a sucker born every minute

Lessons for jweisr

Jweisr: First, take some lessons on spelling and punctuation before you become critical of others.

One of the ways to correct an injustice is to make it public. I really don't think she intended on getting a free ride, rather her intent was to let others know how those low-lifes ripped her off and hopefully prevent it from happening to others.

I applaud those that are out helping her - it shows heart and caring for their fellow human being, which is another lesson you need to learn.
