Cox will televise ODU football opener around Virginia

Posted to: ODU Football Sports

Old Dominion's first football game will be televised throughout the state.

School officials announced Monday that Cox Communications will produce and air ODU's Sept. 5 game against Chowan on Cox Channel 11 in the Hampton Roads area. That feed will be picked up on Cox systems in Roanoke and Northern Virginia, as well as on the Comcast Network, which includes the Richmond market.

Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.

ODU officials expect all seven home games at 19,782-seat Foreman Field to be sold out this season.

"With the demand for tickets exceeding ticket supplies, we expect many will tune in," said Gary McCollum, general manager of Cox.

John Castleberry, who has worked nationally syndicated football games for Westwood One radio for years, will be the play-by-play announcer. Castleberry also was the long-time voice of the Monarchs in men's basketball.

The color commentator for the game has not yet been determined.

Why The Haters?

These are really exciting days for ODU. I find it odd that with every ODU football article comes a sprinkling of utter negativity. Either ODU slighted them somehow or they’re elitist fans from the likes of the ACC (which honestly isn't much to be bragging about these days). Why the hate and insecurities? ODU has never claimed that this program is going to be a top draw on the east coast. It's just darn exciting for a school and it's alum that have waited so long for this. So to the hater's; just chill. Turn your TV to your Hokie's, Tar Heel's, or Trojans (that's for you SoCal boy), because nobody's trying to force this down your throat. Just turn the channel or don't click the link if this offends you somehow. It appears obvious that there at least 20,000 who are interested, so we can survive without your support.

Go figure

Not sure if this is a real tarheelfan making fun of us or someone who roots for another CAA team jealous cause they don't have an up and coming team like us. hmmm, you never know. Why would an ACC fan care about ODU football anyway. But then again there aren't many teams UNC fans can talk smack to cause quite frankly they've been the ACC doormat for several years until Butch Davis arrived. But still, a team like Virginia Tech would turn UNC into a nice doormat that they can use to clean off their cleats with:)

ODU Football

Hey Charlie,

If you can watch Chowan and ODU play football without yawning you must have an IV of No-Doze hooked up.

Although neither will be very good, it could be entertaining because Chowan isnt much better than a good HS team

don't be such a hater ~

don't be such a hater ~ can't you just let the rest of us enjoy the new era of ODU football?

ODU Football

Let's see, ODU has sold out every home game and there is talk of expanding the stadium. Is the next move up to the FBS level and membership in the ACC? Oh, wait a minute, you have to actually play a game first.

You seem to forget. We are

You seem to forget. We are undefeated!

ODU Football

Hey tarheelfan, you may want to consider watching the ODU game because it will probably be one more game than UNC football will have on TV.

This'll be a big deal for

This'll be a big deal for Chowan. Their Garrison Stadium seats 5,000. Foreman Field will seem pretty big and loud with all the ODU fans.

I wondered about televising these games. Usually a TV deal is struck when games are sold out. I wonder if contact has been made with Comcast or MASN? Or maybe ESPN 8 - "The Ocho"?

At least it's football

I'll take an ODU football game on ESPN 8 ANY day over the school not having a football program at all. Let's go O-D-U!!!

ODU Football on TV

Well, hope the re-runs of Andy Griffith and Law and Order are not on against it.................this should be a real snoozer.
