New director hired at Outer Banks Visitors Bureau

Posted to: News North Carolina

After a summer without a person heading Dare County's major industry, the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau has hired a new managing director to be the face of tourism.

Lee Nettles will start work in September, according to a statement issued Thursday by the Visitors Bureau. He is coming to Dare County from the Wilmington/Cape Fear Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau.

"As we navigate this challenging economy, it is provident that we chose someone who comes from a coastal heritage with tourism experience," Renee Cahoon, chairwoman of the Dare County Tourism Board, said in the statement.

Carolyn McCormick, the bureau's managing director for more than 11 years, resigned effective May 6.

The bureau is a public authority charged with promoting and marketing the Outer Banks. It is funded by a 1 percent occupancy tax and a 1 percent prepared-meals tax collected by Dare County.

sic? Provident is an adjective, Ms Cahoon and Ms Kozak

Ray is right, we need a change in the board leadership--Ms Cahoon has a history of wasteful self serving decisions in her county leadership posts.
She loves spending our money. Now she wants us to build a convention center.... too bad they spent so much on that boondoggle of a county office building. There is enough empty space in there (that we pay to heat and cool)to have used the bottom floor for such purposes and still provide expanded office space for the few employees residing there. But that would have required vision beyond our provincial and apparently insecure leaders.
We need someone who wants to serve the county, not themselves.

And the Beat goes on

And, the beat goes on; unless we can get new board leadership. Let's hope it's around the corner.
