Rain, rain, please don't ruin this weekend's outdoor music choices

Jheri mullets, guyliner and ruffles, oh my!

Because we all know that there is no umbrella sturdy enough to withstand the monsoons we've been getting lately. Should, however, all those mermaids around Norfolk stop conspiring with the Goddesses of Typhoons & Destruction to raise the sea level around this piece, we might get away with having a nice music-filled weekend outdoors.

Friday night, the "Funk Fest" at 24th Street on the Oceanfront promises Midnight Star; on Saturday we get the Zapp Band. You young bucks might not know nothing about all that, but us 70s/80s babies -- and of course all of you True Blood undead-- will be having fond flashbacks of Jheri Curls and Cabbage Patch dolls when we hear "No Parking On The Dance Floor","  and "Computer Love."

Meanwhile, if you're steadfast in the death of autotune (meh), you can punch it over to the Latino Music Festival at Town Point Park where Son Boricua, and a variety of local DJs and groups will get the party caliente. It's from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and like the other event, free.
