Tuesday's statement by the Portsmouth City Council

Posted to: News Portsmouth

Recent events together with sustained questions of judgment raise unavoidable issues about the future the city can hope to realize with the mayor's continuing leadership.

We have much left to accomplish and we must have the focus, the consistency, and stability with which ti move forward as a united community. Sadly this is no longer possible under the mayor's leadership for reasons which have become clear to the entire community. With appreciation for his historic service and with gentleness as someone whose voice has long called us together as a community, and as a family it is time to call upon him to retire and to allow us and those who will follow us to carry on the work of this city.

With appreciation for his commitment to our progress but mindful of our obligations to carry this city forward I respectfully move that the mayor announce and council accept his retirement from service to the city effective immediately.
