WILLIAMSBURG

The National Park Service says a section of the Colonial Parkway will be closed for at least four months while a bridge damaged by a boat is repaired.

Park service spokesman Mike Litterst says one of the Powhatan Creek Bridge's support pilings was hit by a boat on July 24. The accident wasn't reported and the park service and the Coast Guard are continuing to investigate.

A section of the parkway between Va. 199 and Va. 359 will remain closed until the repairs are completed. Through traffic from Williamsburg to Jamestown is being detoured to Va. 199, Jamestown Road and Va. 359.

put a map up

Not being familiar with where the bridge is, it makes sense to give us an idea of where this happened geographically. As a boater I'm curious as how big this boat had to be to cause the damage, and still be able to leave the scene without death, injury, or at least sinking.
