Woman charged in connection with crash that killed bicyclist in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE

A woman has been charged in connection with the death of a bicyclist in the 900 block of Johnstown Road, according to police. 

Sarah Magnolia Perry, 21, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, police wrote in a news release. Perry, of the 3000 block of Benefit Road, was arrested at the scene of the crash Tuesday night. 

Shortly after 10:30 p.m., police were called to the area and found Charles Francis McCarty Jr., 46, who died at the scene.

The car that had hit McCarty, of the 1300 block of Fairhaven Road, had left the scene, according to police.

Soon after officers arrived, a woman drove up in a 1997 Oldsmobile.

Additional charges are pending, police wrote.
