CURRITUCK, N.C.
Tours of off-road areas of some parts of North Carolina's Outer Banks face the possibility of more regulations in Currituck County.
The Daily Advance in Elizabeth City reported Wednesday that commissioners voted to restrict businesses that provide the tours. The plan allows commissioners to set a maximum number of vehicles for each tour operator, set their hours of operation and limit the duration of their permit.
The amendment increases the fine for violations from $100 to $500.
Residents of off-road areas had complained about vacationers crowding roads and blocking driveways. They say visitors also get too close to Corolla's wild horses, despite a requirement that people stay at least 50 feet away.
One tour operator told commissioners the ordinance would hurt his business.

Protect the horses!
Thank goodness the county is finally opening up their eyes to this devious and greedy tour operator. People like this come from out of state and even other countries to make a buck off these precious animals and they have no respect for the horses, our community or our property rights.
