Deeds, fellow Dems endorsed by conservationists
The Virginia League of Conservation Voters today announced that it is backing Creigh Deeds for governor along with ticket mates Jody Wagner (lieutenant governor) and Steve Shannon (attorney general) in the 2009 election.
Also receiving support from the group are Dels. Joe Bouchard, D-Virginia Beach; Bobby Mathieson, D-Virginia Beach; Lynwood Lewis, D-Accomack; Paula Miller, D-Norfolk; and challenger Peter Schmidt, who is running for the 82nd District seat in Virginia Beach.
A full list of the group's endorsements can be viewed here.
Meanwhile Wednesday, Deeds told a group of college students about his plan to give future students with good grades a significant tuition break.
Deeds' "Virginia Forward" plan would provide scholarships covering up to 50 percent of tuition costs for students with "B" averages in exchange for a commitment to work in high demand professions for two years after graduating, the gubernatorial candidate told students at Virginia Union University in Richmond.
And earlier this week, the Democratic candidate for governor launched a new television ad airing in the Northern Virginia media market focusing on his education message.
