Defense contractor now based in Virginia

Posted to: Business Defense - Shipyards Military

The technology and defense contractor SAIC has moved its headquarters from San Diego to the company's McLean campus, Gov. Timothy M. Kaine announced Thursday.

SAIC will invest $25 million in the region and will add 1,200 jobs over the next three years, Kaine's office said. SAIC also has offices in Chesapeake, Hampton, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach. It has 45,000 employees worldwide, including 17,500 in the Washington area.

"Virginia's favorable business environment, highly skilled work force and attractive quality of life combine to make this an ideal location," said Walt Havenstein, CEO of SAIC, also known as Science Applications International Corp. The move, he said, also puts SAIC closer to many of its federal customers.
