HOPE MILLS, N.C.
This isn't another dog-bites-man story. This is a dog-bites-the-deputy's-tires story.
The Fayetteville Observer reported that the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said a pit bull deflated all four tires of a deputy's cruiser near Hope Mills on Sunday. Sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Tanna says the deputy parked his car in a woman's driveway while responding to her complaint about another dog.
Tanna says that when Deputy Lynn Lavallis went to speak with Gloria Bass, her dog bit the four tires. The dog didn't attack the deputy.
Tanna says Bass will be billed for the $500 that the new tires cost.

dsvbeach really?!?!
Just to let you know, Pit bulls don't have lock jaw, infact not dog does it is a myth!!!! this is just another lie going around about Pit bulls. Stop talking about thing you don't know any thing about!!!!!
Uneducated Kpowell
kpowell has actually played defense attorney. He says the article didn't say that the dog absolutely punctured the tires. Then he goes on to say the tire would have exploded harming the dog. People like this are why laws are required. Lack of common sense is as dangerous as the dog. Mix them together and......By the way, stick a knife in a tire and you will see it simply deflates. It don't blow up.
first off in the article it
first off in the article it never states there was definitive proof the dog did it. secondly the pressure in a tire is so strong that if u were to stand beside it as it exploded, the released pressure could blow off your leg. how could a dog do this damage unharmed?
pit bulls are not safe...especially the ones near children
Another Recent Headline: Cops: Baby's toes chewed off by pit bull http://www.upi.com/Top_News/2009/09/01/Cops-Babys-toes-chewed-off-by-pit-bull/UPI-57431251825043/
dog bites tires
Put that sucker to sleep.
Imagine what those jaws and teeth
could do to a child, another dog, or even an adult. It takes quite a bit of force to bite through not one, but four tires and deflate them all.
Taste
It's a good thing that this dog likes the taste of rubber better than flesh.
Dog biting tires
I am so tired of hearing about poor Pit Bulls being picked on???? Facts are facts. Pit Bulls jaws lock more so than any other breed of dogs. Sorry to sterotype but what types of people have them, (not all), drug dealers, people who want others to be afraid of coming on their property? Why not get another type of dog that you don't have to worry about taking a chance on it biting or killing? Find another breed to love.....I believe Pit Bulls should be outlawed!

Owner To Pay
So the dog's owner must pay for four new tires. I hope something was done to ensure this dog can't hurt a jogger, bicyclist, or child. But all pitbull owners will tell you how gentle the dog is and how their children and grandchildren play with it. Then the dog attacks someone and they cry how this is so unlike the dog. The owner of this dog should be glad they are not billed for having to clean the officer's britches.
Holy moly! Not one, but all
Holy moly! Not one, but all four tires! Man, that is some kind of jaw strength!
Dog biting tires
Come on you are kidding right, who would let a pit bull be around children at all. Think people. What doesn't anyone get about Pit Bulls? We went to a local animal control and there were numberous kennels with "HOLD FOR COURT". The kennels all held Pit Bulls. What more information does anyone need for these dogs. Even if as people say they are kind, gentle etc. They have the ability top KILL.
Dead on
Your comment is dead on. I saw the same thing when I went to the pound a few years ago. Every pit owner should see this. With the exception of one shepard, the HOLD FOR COURT dogs were all Pit Bulls.
Pitbulls have an Unfair Label
This is NOT news! If it were any other dog it would have NEVER made it into the paper or if it did it would have been made comical, but because it was a pitbull we should all run screaming? NO!!! My family has a 13 year old pitbull who has been though my 2 children, 5 nieces and nephews and tons of friends children and has never so much as acted like he was a threat to them. He is a joy and our lives would not be the same without him!!!
lucky
you are neither knowledgable nor informed, you are just lucky. I am so glad your 13 year old pit has not done anything tragic yet, but that gives very little insight to what it may do in its 14 or 15 year. You are right about it being a story only because it was a pit,no other breed would have the strength or the desire to bite thru 4 mounted tires. It would prove comical had a breed with no history of violence took it upon itself to attack a car, but then again, that is not what happened. It was a Pit Bull AGAIN and will be a pit bull next time. Just read a tragic story about a pit that attack it's neighbor of 7 years just because it could. Never had any problem before, just decided to attack after 7 peaceful years.
After 13 years, I am very
After 13 years, I am very knowledgable & informed. I make it a point to be both on this subject! There are many dogs that have the power to do exactly the same thing. Such as my brothers dog who would also bite and pop tires of cars and also had to be put down because he attacked 2 children...he was a Bull Mastiff! Maybe you should become more informed!!!
very concerned
13 years does not make one informed. Now I am very concerned about any family that would choose pit bulls and Bull Mastifs (very familiar and have worked with both breeds) as family pets. If anyone knows dogs, these are not breeds to be had around children, that siblings would choose these breeds speaks volumes
Very Concerned About Your Doggy IQ
From http://aspca.org/ : "These “early” pit bulls typically lived in their owner’s homes and actually earned the nickname of “nursemaid’s dog” because they were so reliable with young children".
From http://rescueeverydog.org "This breed tends to love all people, especially children".
From http://dogbreedinfo.com "Excellent with children in the family, they have a high pain tolerance and will happily put up with rough child play".
From http://en.wikipedia.org "an extremely popular family dog in the United States (for example, the dog in The Little Rascals movies and in Buster Brown...".
Lest not judge without all the facts because it's certainly not fair and ignorance looks bad on everyone.
holy moly!
Those are some powerful jaws [and teeth!] on that dog! Someone had to teach that dog to go after tires if a car is on the property...
Oh my...
can you imagine the power it took to chomp through those tires!!??
