Stephen McPherson was sentenced today to three years in prison for taking indecent liberties with two teenage sisters whom he supervised at Hope Haven Children’s Home during the late 1990s.
McPherson, a former assistant dean at Regent University, pleaded guilty to the charges two weeks ago in Circuit Court in exchange for the three-year sentence. Circuit Judge A. Joseph Canada Jr. accepted the plea and imposed the sentence today.
Canada noted McPherson already had pleaded guilty to similar charges in Chesapeake, where he was ordered to serve 16 years in prison, and that the victims didn’t want McPherson to be severely punished in Virginia Beach.
McPherson, 40, apologized in court for his actions.
His wife also has pleaded guilty to sexual acts with another teenage girl.
Melina McPherson is out on bond, pending her own sentencing on Oct. 7. Her plea agreement calls for her to serve 40 days in jail, register as a sex offender and obey numerous other court-ordered restrictions.
