Female sailors can soon wear permanent makeup

Posted to: Military Norfolk

NORFOLK

When female sailors deploy, they can now leave their lipstick and eyeliner at home.

The Navy's uniform board has authorized women to wear permanent makeup starting Nov. 1 - as long as it's "in good taste" and blends naturally with their skin tone. The new policy applies to eyebrows, eyeliner, lipstick and lip liner.

The lipstick needs to be "conservative," and "faddish cosmetic styles are not authorized," the policy warns.

The board also approved a change that will make commuting to work easier for sailors, male and female, who work on the flight deck. They may now wear their non spark safety boots with the new Navy Working Uniform during their commutes.

RE: odalum06. Simply stating my opinion.

Maybe you and your shipmates are an exception, but personally I've had nothing but bad experiences with Navy women. Most of my friends/family are either active duty or retired. My fiance is active, & I hear new stories all the time. Not every woman in the Navy is like yourself, & not all aspire to be a shining example.

You can still look professional in uniform w/o makeup. It’s not a necessity like food, H2O, shelter, or clothing. It’s an aesthetic issue. The Navy doesn’t care about aesthetics, with the ugly new uniforms they have. Since the article is about permanent makeup, it’s a face tattoo. So this is being allowed, so what’s going to be the next thing?

Pregnancy was brought up in previous comments. As for religion? Nice, but isn’t an excuse to get pregnant before every single deployment. Against birth control? Don’t have sex. Plan your pregnancy when you’re on shore duty or even better, out of the service. For example, you can’t serve to the best of your ability when you’re an intelligence officer sitting at home on maternity leave because duty to your family was more important than to your country.

More responsibility needs to be displayed.

Well,

For starters, I am not in the Navy, I simply said I am in the military. Second, if you've heard so many bad things about Navy women, why on earth would you enlist in the Navy?

And I do apologize for my

And I do apologize for my assumption; referring to me as a shipmate in an article about Navy women and such gave me the impression you were indeed in the Navy.

I don't have anything against military women at all, I would just like to see better behavior and higher standards so women can be taken seriously in the armed forces. First face tattoos, then what? I'm wondering exactly how far this change is going to go. The few good military women I know, enlisted and officers, are wonderful people and the type of person I'd like to be. It just takes a few bad apples to ruin everything.

I'm thankful that you and other women have stepped up and are stepping up with the men to defend our country. I just want better for us. Maybe if the ones that gave military women a bad rep worked even just a little? Maybe the group overall would be treated with more respect.

I will simply say it's to

I will simply say it's to serve our country, for my loved ones, & to better myself. My father served 25 years in and raised me with the strict idea that upon enlisting, you're held to a higher standard as far as personal character, behavior, and actions than you would in in the civilian world. Perhaps it's a bit of his 'old Navy' experience rubbing off on me, but it's something I highly respect him for.

The makeup issue just seems silly. Makeup isn't a necessity. You can still look presentable in uniform without it. Permanent makeup is just a type of face tattoo, it's not needed, so what's next?

As far as my aggression with the pregnany issue, I have seen it firsthand. Five times with Navy women and once with a Marine. From what I've heard from people in many different branches, it's become somewhat of an epidemic.

Permanent Makeup

The Navy sez..."in good taste" but in who's opinion and what do you do if it's not? It's a tattoo, stupid and that's forever!

Guess/

Yeah, it wont be long before the men will also have that right. This is wrong for me to say" But if the womwn need it give it to them" Some women need all the help they can get and this just might beautify the military.
Right!!!

Just had a mental picture of

Just had a mental picture of Boy George in crackerjacks!

PERMENENT MAKE UP FOR FEMALES IN THE NAVY

I don't normally commit on these articles but this just blows my mind. As a female retired Sailor of 20 years in my opinion this is asking for trouble. Like the another person said faddish is in the eye of the beholder. What do these people be thinking when they make these decsions..??? I can see putting make up on when you are pulling into port or on shore duty in good taste of course but being at sea who cares what you look like...as long as your are neat and within good taste and wear your uniform properly....what is important is getting the ship U/W performing your job to best of your ability making sure your people and their families are going to be alright wile you are away...WHAT IS THE POINT....that just another thing the REAL CHIEFS AND REAL FIRST CLASSES HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT.....DUMB DUMB DECSION GUYS.....!!!!!!!

I have a problem

I have a problem with the fact that they can go get makeup tattooed on so they look good when they wake up. Yet my husband gets grieve for getting a tattoo for my children in a place that is not visible in uniform.
Its a TATTOO i dont care if they call it makeup or not its still a tattoo. I thought the Navy was going all anti-tattoom, but they can ok this?? So what happens when it doesnt fit "tastefull" in thier terms i mean its permanent cant unlike a tattoo that can be covered, you cant make them cover thier face..

Well

Usually a member will put in a request to get a tattoo or in this case, permanent makeup. If supervisors in the chain of command deem it to be too faddish or outrageous, they'll deny the request. It's that easy.
