A former Newport News high school teacher and golf coach faces up to 75 years in prison after pleading guilty to sex charges involving a student.
Steven Mark Yewcic is scheduled to be sentenced in January. The 53-year-old Yewcic pleaded guilty Thursday in James City County-Williamsburg Circuit Court to 15 counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor under his supervision.
Prosecutor Holly Smith said Yewcic was the victim's health teacher at Woodside High School. The male student, who was then 17, told James City County Police that Yewcic sexually abused him between June 1, 2008, and Nov. 26, 2008.
Yewcic also faces charges in Newport News, where a hearing is scheduled for Oct. 7.
