N.C.-based Marine dies in Afghanistan

A North-Carolina based Marine died in Afghanistan Thursday, the Department of Defense has announced.

Lance Cpl. Christopher S. Fowlkes, a 20-year-old from Gaffney, S.C., died from wounds suffered Sept. 3 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, according to a DoD news release.

Fowlkes was assigned to the 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion based in Camp Lejeune, N.C., according to the release.
