VIRGINIA BEACH

Police are investigating a series of 12 burglaries that took place in September at the Mansards Apartments in Lakeview Park.

Last month, one rape and one incident of vandalism also occurred at the complex between Northampton Boulevard and Shell Road, according to online police reports.

Police don't have any suspects in the burglaries and are increasing patrols in the area while property-crime detectives investigate, Officer Adam Bernstein, a Police Department spokesman, said in an e-mail.

A community safety group that includes residents and officers in the city's 3rd Precinct also is increasing its watch efforts there, he said.

In one of the incidents, $15,666 worth of property was stolen Sept. 4, including a Giants jersey, computer equipment, an Xbox 360, a gold chain, recording equipment and a 42-inch flat-screen TV, according to a police report.

Police ask that anyone with information call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP (562-5887).
