Salem 17, Kellam 10

Brian Johnson’s interception capped a stout defensive effort in the second overtime as the SunDevils won their second straight Beach District game on Thursday night at Kellam.

Johnson picked off Matt Schmit’s pass on third-and-goal in the second extra period. Salem (2-2) recovered a fumble in the first OT after the teams played to a 10-10 tie in regulation.

The SunDevils forced four turnovers.

“We stopped the run and stopped their quarterback,” Johnson said. “They have a good quarterback, and that was big.”

Salem’s Darryl Jackson scored on a 2-yard run on the SunDevils’ second overtime possession.

Salem kicker Kyle LaCroix, who made a 27-yard field goal in the first half, missed a 49-yarder as time expired in the fourth quarter and missed a 25-yarder in the first overtime.

Kellam fell to 1-3.

First Colonial 31, Tallwood 13

Willie Byrn rushed for 160 yards and two touchdowns as the host Patriots (3-1) won the Beach District tussle. Mykell Stanley returned an interception 25 yards for a 17-0 First Coloinal lead in the third quarter.

The Patriots defense held Tallwood (0-3) to 24 yards rushing. Anderson Miller led that effort with six tackles.

First Colonial placekicker Michael Mugler drilled a 37-yard field goal and made all four of his conversion kicks.

Green Run 47, Princess Anne 0

The Stallions (1-3) picked up their first victory, keeping the Cavaliers (0-4) scoreless this season in a Beach District game at the Sportsplex.

Trinity Episcopal 48, Norfolk Academy 19

The visting Bulldogs (1-2) were ambushed by Trinity quarterback Will White, who threw for seven touchdowns and 427 yards.

The hosts (2-1) scored 28 unanswered points in the second half. White completed 23 of 34 passes and was not intercepted.

Ben Alberico paced Norfolk Academy with 82 yards and one touchdown rushing and a 31-yard scoring reception.
