'Virginia is for Lovers' slogan honored by advertising industry

Posted to: Business

If they didn’t know it before, New Yorkers will certainly know it now: Virginia is for lovers.

The 40-year-old slogan was inducted into the National Advertising Walk of Fame this week, Gov. Timothy M. Kaine announced today.

“We’ve always felt that ‘Virginia is for lovers’ is a powerful tourism slogan, and this competition proves it,” Kaine said in a statement.

Other new inductees include Budweiser’s Clydesdale horses and the slogan “Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there.” The Virginia slogan and the others will be enshrined with plaques on New York’s Madison Avenue, which is considered the national headquarters for advertising. The Associated Press contributed to this story.
