Virginia Spadefish Approved as IGFA World Record

World Record Spadefish Approved

Roland and his pending 14lb, 14oz Atlantic Spadefish

IGFA Representative ANNOUNCEMENT

The pending Atlantic Spadefish weighing 14lbs, 14oz was officially approved as the new IGFA All tackle Record this week. This fish was also approved as the new Virginia State Record.

The moster spade was caught on 13 June 2009 by Roland E. Murphy while fishing at the Cell aboard the “Kingfish” captained by Allen King of Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Roland claims that “the fish put up a gallant fight for over 20 minutes, taking me around the boat, back and forth, under the boat, around the motor, almost wearing me out before wearing it out.”

Congratulations to the angler and crew!
