The Coast Guard has released the name of a man who died when a boat capsized near Hampton.

James Newsome, 55, and three other people were tossed into the water about a mile east of Fort Monroe Saturday about noon, said Lt. jg Scott McBride, a Coast Guard spokesman. Newsome was from Knightdale, N.C.

The other three people in the 18-foot boat, were taken to Sentara CarePlex Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

The incident also involved a tugboat that was pushing a barge, but investigators don’t yet know what caused the 18-foot boat to capsize, McBride said.

People in two other boats got the four from the overturned boat out of the water and took them to a nearby marina, according to the Coast Guard. Paramedics took them to the hospital.

The case remains under investigation.
