FRANKLIN
Gov. Timothy M. Kaine will visit International Paper's facilities in Franklin this afternoon to meet with employees, his office announced this morning.
The governor will join local leaders for the meeting, scheduled for 2:15 p.m., a news release says.
No other details about the meeting were released.
International Paper announced plans last week to cut 1,600 positions in four states. The Franklin plant employs 1,100 people.
Rep. Randy Forbes has set up a Web site to help workers who will be affected by the mill's closure next year.
The Web site's address is www.forbes.house.gov/IPresources. It offers a list of resources available to families and businesses, including employment training, unemployment assistance and federal job resources.
Forbes says his senior district representative will hold special office hours for affected residents every Thursday at 10 a.m. in the city manager's office in the Franklin Municipal Building.
Pilot writer Cindy Clayton contributed to this report.

Bailout in works?
As sorry as I am for the folks who lost their jobs, it is not the federal, state or local governments job to bail anyone out. All these politicians are just looking for photo-ops. Pitiful.
Was the stealth guvnor wearing his DNC crown
or his "I'm The Governor!" ballcap? Was his aide carrying a tape measure & paint swatches?
Word on the street has it the DNC's looking for a rural "southern command" location or possibly a new campus on which to train community organizers & census takers.
Interesting~
"Rep. Randy Forbes has set up a Web site to help workers who will be affected by the mill's closure next year. "
Randy has NOTHING to gain by sincerely trying to help the Suffolk workers and families, other than, "he cares"!
"Perfect timing" (4 days before the elections) how did Tim to get permission to take off from his $200,000.00 job at the DNC to act like he cares?
Thank goodness we will have a "Full Time" Governor soon!
GO BOB, GO!
Sorry.....
I couldn't resist!

So the news...
