Gov. Kaine plans to visit Franklin paper mill today

Posted to: Business Jobs and Workplace Western Tidewater

FRANKLIN

Gov. Timothy M. Kaine will visit International Paper's facilities in Franklin this afternoon to meet with employees, his office announced this morning.

The governor will join local leaders for the meeting, scheduled for 2:15 p.m., a news release says.

No other details about the meeting were released.

International Paper announced plans last week to cut 1,600 positions in four states. The Franklin plant employs 1,100 people.

Rep. Randy Forbes has set up a Web site to help workers who will be affected by the mill's closure next year.

The Web site's address is www.forbes.house.gov/IPresources. It offers a list of resources available to families and businesses, including employment training, unemployment assistance and federal job resources.

Forbes says his senior district representative will hold special office hours for affected residents every Thursday at 10 a.m. in the city manager's office in the Franklin Municipal Building.

Pilot writer Cindy Clayton contributed to this report.

Bailout in works?

As sorry as I am for the folks who lost their jobs, it is not the federal, state or local governments job to bail anyone out. All these politicians are just looking for photo-ops. Pitiful.

Was the stealth guvnor wearing his DNC crown

or his "I'm The Governor!" ballcap? Was his aide carrying a tape measure & paint swatches?
Word on the street has it the DNC's looking for a rural "southern command" location or possibly a new campus on which to train community organizers & census takers.

Interesting~

"Rep. Randy Forbes has set up a Web site to help workers who will be affected by the mill's closure next year. "

Randy has NOTHING to gain by sincerely trying to help the Suffolk workers and families, other than, "he cares"!

"Perfect timing" (4 days before the elections) how did Tim to get permission to take off from his $200,000.00 job at the DNC to act like he cares?

Thank goodness we will have a "Full Time" Governor soon!

GO BOB, GO!

Sorry.....

I couldn't resist!

10/30/09
RALEIGH — The State Board of Elections today voted unanimously to fine former Gov. Mike Easley's campaign $100,000 and ask prosecutors to pursue a criminal investigation of Easley himself.

The board fined the N.C. Democratic Party $9,000.
--------------------------------------------

Are we having fun yet?

Hopefully

Any news is consolation for the wingnuts who lost the White House, Senate, House and both Senate seats. Maybe after the election we want hear as much whinning.

Okie Dokie!

Sorry I can't resist reading the morning News!

October 30, 2009
Washington (CNN) -- The House ethics committee on Thursday announced separate investigations into whether Rep. Laura Richardson and Rep. Maxine Waters, both Democrats from California, violated rules of conduct.

----------------------------------

Maybe their California Buddy Pelosi will come to their rescue?

So the news...

appears to have finally caught up with Governor Kaine! I wonder if he was in a part of the country where his cell phone's service was impacted?

Saved Jobs

Maybe he can go down and tell them all how Obama's bailout saved 650k jobs.....just not theirs, even after they took 70 million of bailout money.

Aww, heck…

…and dag gone it! The Virginia thing. I forgot. I’m the goobner. Need ta check ‘n see how whatshisname is doin’ in the polls. Is it Credee?

ZZZZZ

I guess Obummer must be taking a nap and lil' Timmy slipped out the back door of his part time job to do his other part time job.

You're Doomed

You're doomed if you do and doomed if you don't.

?

Why? What is the point now. A tad bit late. They should have been around when the talks were going on at IP?

Maybe

he was out of town AGAIN on DNC business

WHOAH!!!

OK, so our "do-nothing" Governor is going to visit International Paper today to DO NOTHING! Each day closer to next Tuesday is one day closer to a better Virginia. HOORAY Governor McDonnell, a Hampton Roads' resident, and one who will take care of the people of Franklin!

Actually, if he sticks to his line

the purity of the party line there won't be any help for Franklin. It is the whims of the market after all. Just go find another job is the rep motto.

...

how?

IP made a profit last year

and apparently it was on the printing of the Congressional Bills alone - yesterday's House bill 1990 pages.....does each member get his own copy to read? That's 435 x 1990. Don't know why they are closing the Franklin mill....seems to me they need it to produce all that paper needed for Congress.

Save paper, vote Republican

The Republican health care proposal is much shorter and would have saved the Government Printing Office a lot of paper and maybe have kept the Franklin plant open a while longer. "Give the insurance companies everything they want. And if you can't afford health insurance, too bad. You'll get sick, die and be less of a burden on the rest of us who can afford it."

Doubtful

And even if they did get their own copy, they still would not read it.

The wicked witch of the west told them how to vote, and won't let anyone that is not in her circle read it anyway!

just like

the bumbling bonehead and MCduh do on their side. That's right though, it's only bad when the dems vote en masse. When the repugnants do it's democracy in action and protection of ....... And another thing, it seems to be courageous when a dem crosses and votes with the reprobates, but when a rep votes with the dems it's treason. So which party really tries to keep the purity? Looks like both.
