Former Blackwater now marketing services to civilians

Posted to: Business Defense and Shipyards North Carolina

The Moyock firearms training center formerly known as Blackwater is now marketing its services to civilians in addition to law enforcement and the military.

A recent ad for the facility now called the U.S. Training Center in The Virginian-Pilot highlighted an array of course offerings, for beginners on up, for handgun, shotgun and carbine. Women-only classes also are available.

Shotgun Life, an online magazine for wing-and-clay shotgun enthusiasts, is promoting a three-day, $1,700 course at the center. The "shooting package" includes three nights at the Westin Virginia Beach Town Center and dinner "with one or two members of U.S. Training Center's management team."

Now owned by Xe Services LLC of McLean, the training center changed its name from Blackwater in February. It has trained more than 230,000 military and law enforcement personnel over 10 years, the Shotgun Life promo reads.

The center's Web site touts the company's "ability to deliver hard-hitting, effective training experiences for military, security and law-enforcement professionals as well as civilians."

Several voice-mail messages left with U.S. Training Center officials, as well as an e-mail, were not returned last week.

Irwin Greenstein, publisher of Shotgun Life, said there have been no takers yet for the three-day package in Moyock, but "the offer is still available."

How long

How before they're no longer the company formerly known as Blackwater?

WOW the Pilot is inept.

Blackwater has been offering Courses to Civilians for years. This is not a new development. Civilians have been training there for YEARS.

Do your research!

who cares?

Why is this newsworthy? Does the Pilot have nothing more significant to report?

Blackwater Training

As a former Marine and Army soldier with 11 years of service, I have had several courses with weapons. I recently competed the three day "Advance Handgun Skills" course and by far one of the best classes I have ever taken... worth every nickle. As a CCP holder and active shooter, it would be so benifical to any of those who use firearms. I additional took the 1 day Carbine class back in the Spring. That too was a very worthwhile class.

Good article

I have been very critical of the Pilot for being insanely biased against Blackwater. Thanks you for an article that is fair and to the point without opinion. This employeer brings millions of dollars to this region. They fill hotel rooms, restaurants, retail stores. Not with "mercenaries", but with normal folks. Police officers, Navy, Marine Corps, SWAT teams, etc. These are people just earning a living like us. At a time when there are many stories of jobs leaving our region, I think the Pilot would do the region a favor and focus on those keeping Hampton Roads above average in the country.

Not new

They, "Blackwater," have been offering packages and training to civilians since they opened years ago.
