Hoffler Wildlife Preserve offers friendly hayride
The Hoffler Wildlife Preserve will have a Halloween hayride for the young and the young at heart this Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. The ride will go through the preserve while little ones spot friendly ghosts and goblins along the way. Kids will also get the chance to paint a pumpkin and participate in a costume parade. Refreshments will be served. Cost is $5 per child; adults are free. The preserve is at 4510 Twin Pines Road.
On a recent Saturday, Long Point resident Carolyn Dennis hosted a few of her daughter’s friends for a day of pumpkin carving. Eight excited preteens spent the day decorating gourds and feasting on lunch and the best hot chocolate in the world. Carolyn even roasted a few of the seeds for a healthy snack. A number of seeds were saved and the group plans to plant them next spring. With any luck, next fall they’ll be carving pumpkins from their own garden.
