The latest in decor, layout and architecture draws thousands from across Hampton Roads to the houses of Homearama.

But those who are more interested in sliding down banisters than using them as handrails can still find fun at this year's showcase of homes at Culpepper Landing.

Kidarama at Homearama will be will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at The Charity House, one of the show's 12 featured homes. Proceeds from the home's sale will benefit Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters.

"We have lots of fun activities set up for kids of all ages," said Sam Fabian, CHKD community outreach program manager. "It's a great way to incorporate the whole family in Homearama. Just look for all the balloons. We will be easy to spot."

Landstown High School students will provide face painting, while three CHKD "Buddy Brigade" pet therapists will showcase the work of therapy dogs. The hospital's mascot, Healthy Bear, will make an appearance.

"This gives CHKD the opportunity to have a visible presence at The Charity House," Fabian said. "We can show our support to the builder and all who helped make this house a success."

Since 1988, Tidewater Builder Association members have helped construct 20 Charity Houses and whose sales have raised more than $1 million for local children's programs.

"Last year's Kidarama was an outstanding success," said Herb Watson, 2009 Charity House builder. "We are hoping more people make it a point to bring the family out for this year's event."

This is the fourth year CHKD has held Kidarama at Homearama.

"We love being out here every year," she said. "It also helps publicize The Charity House." This year's Charity House has already sold.

During the event parents can learn about the various services CHKD has to offer. Personnel from three CHKD primary care offices will be on hand. Children can take home coloring books and fun handouts.

"It's a great way to learn about the services in our area while the kids have some fun," Watson said. "And everyone can enjoy Homearama."

Homearama runs through Oct. 18.
