A 39-year-old man was killed in a crash this morning involving a dirt bike.
At 10:16 a.m. Newport News police received an e911 call about a man crashing into a culvert in the 5000 block of Cay St., according to a news release from Hampton police. Medics and police responded and found the man lying in the bottom of the culvert along the city line. He was pronounced dead at the scene and police determined that the crash actually occurred in Hampton.
Paul Douglas Gardner had been riding the dirt bike along a grassy area alongside a concrete culvert when he crashed, police said.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation.
