The Republican candidates for lieutenant governor and attorney general have strong leads less than a week before Election Day, according to a new poll.
Incumbent Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling had a 13-percentage-point lead against his Democratic rival, Virginia Beach businesswoman Jody Wagner, in a phone survey of likely Virginia voters taken Wednesday and Thursday by Mason-Dixon Polling and Research Inc.
Bolling was favored by 47 percent of those polled and Wagner by 34 percent; 19 percent were undecided.
Both candidates gained 3 percentage points and the number of undecided votes dropped since a similar Mason-Dixon poll was taken Oct. 6-9.
In the attorney general’s race, state Sen. Ken Cuccinelli, R-Fairfax County, expanded his lead over state Del. Steve Shannon, D-Vienna. Cuccinelli is favored by 46 percent of those polled, up from 37 percent earlier this month. Shannon drew 32 percent, and 22 percent were undecided, according to the poll.
All the candidates appear to be relatively unknown to some voters. More than one of every four said they didn’t recognize the names of Wagner or Shannon. One in five didn’t know Cuccinelli and one of every six didn’t know Bolling.
The statewide poll of 625 likely voters has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

if you like theocratic fascists
vote for bobby mcroberston on tuesday
and if he prevails he can continue the bush legacy of gutting the constitution and bill of rights in the name of patriotism
yea right
if there so great!
if the democrats where doing such a good job, either state, or national wise, there would be no contest, but truth is there not, and thats why the referendum is out on this party. in ten month they have scared this nation into a panic! with there poor fiscal judgment. and evasive tactics to control your healthcare. and just think people where in a tizzy over the patriot act, not that i agree with the act. but your ok with the government running your personal health issues?your ok with wall street bailouts, to cover there own asses and there friends? your ok with take over of a car industry, just so the democrat party can keep there union friends in there pockets? your outspokenness against the war has seemed to be on the back burner, because there is a D on the bombs now? thats ok! this is just the beginning of the end and they now it, why do you think they are so hell bent to push every part of there social agenda before they get the royal boot? i don't know who trying to run this country into the ground faster, the gop or the dems. but the way i see it now, the dems.are sure at ludicrous speed!
If you like Obama
Tuesday. if you like Obama and his Marxist programs just stay home. If you don't, please get out and vote for Bob McDonnell.
A Marxist?
A "Marxist" is what a Republican calls someone who is smarter than they are.
Please tell me you're not
Please tell me you're not actually encouraging people not to vote?
Thinking….
….Tuesday is going to be a sad day for the dems. Credit to BO and Kaine. Mistakes to be corrected one step at a time. We’ll see.
Happy Halloween.
Consolation Prize
The repugs know a lot about sad days. You just can't shake Nov.4,2008. Every time you mention Obama's name, you're thinking of Nov. 4. You lost the House,Senate, White House and the two VA senate seats. Nov. 3 is your consolation prize.
Why did they not also mention
That the republican is also leading over the democrat running for governor. Well this says allot for lil Tim and Obummer’s “Hope and Change” garbage.
Voter supression will begin immediately
If Pat Robertson McDonnell wins, the voter suppression will begin immediately. It's what they do.
I'm surprised this article appeared on PilotOnLine.
If you wanted to see the print version, it's in the upper right hand corner of page 5 of the Hampton Roads section, across from the obituaries. And I thought the campaign was big news around here. I wonder where it would be if the Dems pulled even or went ahead?
Just Wondering
Has anyone noticed a negative correlation lately between who the Virginian Pilot Editorial Staff recomends and who the voters seem to prefer. Out of curiosity, how many on the staff are actually from Virginia?
Can this be correct?
How accurate can a poll of 635 likely voters be?
Who conducted it?
Was it conducted over the phone?
When was it conducted?
Answered
I don't know if the Pilot went back and changed the article, but all your questions are answered within the context.
Facts?
You don't expect facts and real information from the Pilot do you?
