Sub Newport News due home to Norfolk Thursday

The submarine Newport News is due home from a six-month deployment on Thursday, the Navy announced.

Highlights During its deployment, the Los Angeles class fast-attack submarine Newport News participated in the 50th UNITAS exercise with South American allies. Port visits included Panama City, Panama; Curacao, Netherlands Antilles; and San Diego.

The sub also celebrated the 20th anniversary of its commissioning. It is the eighth ship to bear the name of the city where it was built.
