Virginia State Police are investigating whether any felons illegally voted in last November's election.
Police and election officials aren't saying how many possible offenders are under investigation.
Election officials say the investigation was prompted by questions raised by the recent indictment of two people in a Louisa County voter-fraud case.
The State Board of Elections compiled a list of people who might have voted illegally and gave it to police, who will try to determine whether anyone in fact voted illegally.
The board sends felony-conviction data from the state police to local registrars to use when deciding who should be registered, but officials say the process isn't perfect. Officials say it also is the voter's responsibility to follow the law.

No more rights!
The bottomline should be..when one commits a crime, especially a felony, you no longer deserve your constitutional rights.
Excellent, so they shouldn't
Excellent, so they shouldn't have to pay taxes either? The constitution is a compact, among citizens with the government. If the government were to break some part of that compact why should those citizens keep up their end? Too many of us are willing to make other people second class citizens or less than equal in some way. I don't think that makes any sense and believe the impulse is ignorant and self-serving.
Citizens who commit crimes should pay for them. After they're done paying, the punishment should end. Obviously, there are some limitations, child molesters and people who commit gun related crimes are among them. But removing so a basic a right, to participate in an election, should not be one of them.
Felons on parade
What a joke this is! First of all, what is an ex-Felon? haha... just had to ask. Next, I guess it is the voter's responsibility to follow the law. But just like it's the driver's responsibility to follow the speed limit, there are police officers there to ticket and/or arrest them when they violate it. This is a really easy process. The local courthouses should send a list of felons to each precinct and that would keep any felons from being able to vote. I'm sure there are plenty of other ways to prevent felons from being able to vote, but it isn't rocket science. Lastly, I am curious why felons aren't allowed to vote, though. What's the thought process? Those who cheat on their spouse or abandon their children or are convicted of misdemeanor offenses? Their okay to vote, but not those that have a felony? Seems like a bit of a double standard, but who knows....
Its the law
The law says that felons cannot vote. ACORN and Obama never got the word on that one I guess and I am sure thousands of them did in the last election.
you're sure because that is
you're sure because that is what your handlers have told you.
Believe It or Not
Not every felon is a bad person. Stop being so judgemental.
Question?
Sooooo......how much time did you serve? Just kidding.
Wellllll dead people vote
Wellllll dead people vote why can't felons? Dead people have been electing officials for years :o)
Wonder whom they voted for?
Hmmmm?
(Head slap)
Officials say it also is the voter's responsibility to follow the law.
Why didn't I think that - it is so simple. But then again why DON"T the officials enforce the law. Notice there are no names associated with "Officials" in the short and incomplete story. I suppose that after prison everyone is reformed and law abiding. Riiiiighttt.
