Williamsburg woman killed in crash near Colonial Parkway

A Williamsburg woman was killed and another person injured in a crash Tuesday night on the Peninsula, Virginia State Police said.

The crash happened at 9:23 p.m. on Penniman Road at Colonial Parkway, near the line between James City County and York County, State Police Sgt. Michelle Cotten said.

Elizabeth Marie Shannon, 19, was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center, where she died, Cotten said.

Shannon was driving a Chevy Aveo south on Penniman when she ran off the road to the left and hit a cement pillar.

A passenger was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in critical condition.
