4 NBC affiliates ban PETA's Thanksgiving Day ad

Posted to: News Norfolk

RALEIGH, N.C.

Four NBC affiliates broadcasting the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade are banning a commercial promoting veganism sponsored by Norfolk-based People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

PETA spokesman Michael Lyubinsky said Tuesday the organization wanted to air the commercial during the parade but stations in Raleigh, N.C., Columbia, S.C., Savannah, Ga., and Little Rock, Ark., had banned it.

The commercial depicts a young girl saying grace at Thanksgiving, giving thanks for "the turkey farms where they pack them into dark, tiny little sheds for their whole lives."

The ad encourages viewers to "Go vegan."

Brad Moses, general manager of Raleigh's WNCN, said he decided to ban the ad in Raleigh and Savannah because it's not appropriate for the spirit of the parade.

Another bad Idea !

These Turkeys were killed for a reason and that is for eating. We are not going to feel guilty about enjoying that which God has given us. Let's worry about people who kill for no reason!

PETA Shelters

PETA shelters that take in stray and unwanted pets (companion animals) have an 85% kill rate nationally. Park across the street from the pet crematory in Virginia Beach sometime and watch the large containers of executed pets being delivered by truck for cremation. (Unless, you want to sit by a dumpster in North Carolina in the middle of the night and see them being dumped.)

Mythical shelters

PeTA does not operate shelters. Their opponents repeatedly make the incorrect claim to support their arguments, even swearing they've seen a mythical Norfolk facility despite never having visited the area. Unfortunately, PeTA is too often called to be the euthanasia provider of last resort for those unwilling or unable to make the difficult choice themselves. Obviously this means the statistics for animals actually euthanized will be high.

I wonder if shark and

I wonder if shark and alligators and other animals that eat humans have an organization to save us?

Eat More Turkey

Eat meat! It's good for you. Humans have been doing it for thousands of years.... and will do so for thousands more.

Vegans

As an avowed omnivore, I believe that vegan's and vegetarians represent a valuable commodity. When the apocalypse comes, the vegan's will be our best source of tender, grain and vegetable fed protein. Personally, I keep a list of my "herd" of vegan's who will supply me meat during the dark time.

:)

I'll have to admit...

that is a great commercial!!! And I'm not a PETA fan.

It is a good commercial. The

It is a good commercial. The girl is spot on--"and also thank you for rainbows, let's eat" The girl's grace is quite a bit more explicit than the quote the Pilot offers. Given most of the programing (and other commercials) are going to be in celebration of *Turkey* day I can understand why the networks chose not to air this commercial. I'm neither a friend nor a fan of PETA but I think they're marketing team rocks. "kitten of the sea" indeed.

my turkey will still cook

I think if people have not chosen to go vegan on thanksgiving, they are certainly not going to choose to do so at the random moment the commercial shows after the floats of Snoopy and Spongebob go by, and as their turkey is usually already roasting in the oven...PETA would be wasting their money anyway...just sayin

PETA

PETA Needs to be stuffed and thrown away. They are such an eye sore to the City of Norfolk!
