Author of 'Guyland' to speak at Old Dominion

Michael Kimmel, sociologist and author of the best-seller "Guyland: The Perilous World Where Boys Become Men," will speak at 7 p.m. today in the Mills Godwin Jr. Life Sciences Building auditorium at Old Dominion University.

"Guyland" is based on more than 400 interviews with young men, age 16 to 26. According to his Web site, Kimmel's study shows that the males who live in the "Guyland" demographic are confused and unable to commit to their relationships, work or lives.

Kimmel has been asked to be a consultant on gender politics for the television show "Mad Men."
