Cavs erase 10-point deficit in victory

CANCUN, Mexico

Sylven Landesberg scored 20 points to lead five players in double figures and Virginia rallied from a 10-point second-half deficit to defeat Cleveland State 76-65 in the third-place game of the Cancun Challenge on Wednesday night.

Will Sherrill sparked a 10-0 run for the Cavaliers (4-2) in the second half with five of his 18 points, helping turn a 46-39 deficit into a 49-46 lead with 11:20 left.

Mike Scott (15), Mustapha Farrakhan (11) and Sammy Zeglinski (10) also reached double figures for Virginia.

Cleveland State (3-3) briefly regained the lead, but Mike Scott's dunk with 7:55 left put the Cavaliers ahead for good at 56-54.

Virginia scored the game's last 10 points in the final 2:32 to put the Vikings away.

Jeremy Montgomery paced Cleveland State with 14 points, while Aaron Pogue added 13 and Norris Cole had 12.

The Cavaliers held a 32-18 advantage in rebounds and shot 67 percent from the field in the second half.

Virginia will return to action Monday night when it hosts Penn State in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
