Chesapeake city attorney wins peer award

Posted to: Chesapeake News

CHESAPEAKE

City Attorney Ronald S. Hallman has been awarded a top honor for making significant contributions to local government law in Virginia.

Hallman, Chesapeake’s city attorney since 1978, accepted the Edward J. Finnegan Award for Distinguished Service on Friday at a banquet put on by the Local Government Attorneys of Virginia, Inc.

Hallman has been with the city for 40 years, and is only Chesapeake’s third city attorney. Mayor Alan Krasnoff said Hallman has been to at least 1,000 City Council meetings and worked with at least nine city managers. Hallman, 65, said Monday he had no plans to retire.

He got two standing ovations Friday at the LGA banquet, held at The Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach. City department heads surprised him Monday with a ceremony on the 6th floor of City Hall.

I don't know of any person in any city in Hampton Roads that has as much active legal service in as Mr. Hallman.

Thank you sir. Job well done.
