Closings, schedule changes for Veterans Day

The following government agencies and offices will be closed or observe changes in their schedules for Veterans Day:

Courts and municipal offices
Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach Most city offices and courts will be closed Wednesday.

Financial institutions
Most bank and credit unions will be closed Wednesday. Contact specific institutions.

Garbage collection
Chesapeake and Portsmouth No regular trash collected Wednesday .
Suffolk Trash normally collected Wednesday will be collected Thursday, Thursday's collected Friday and Friday's collected Saturday.
Norfolk and Virginia Beach Trash will be collected Wednesday as scheduled.

Hampton Roads Transit
On Wednesday, HRT will operate on a regular schedule, with no service on route 963. Call (757) 222-6100.

U.S. Postal Service
Post offices will be closed Wednesday with no regular mail delivery.

Public libraries
Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach Libraries will be closed Wednesday.

Public schools
Chesapeake Public schools will be closed Tuesday (regular workday for staff) and Wednesday.
Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach Public schools will be closed Wednesday .

Recreation centers
Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach Centers will be closed Wednesday .

State offices
DMV All Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles customer service centers will be closed Wednesday. Service for many common transactions is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at www.dmvnow.com and (888) 337-4782.

ABC Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control stores will be open Wednesday.

Never ceases to amaze me

Libraries and rec centers, the two places kids could go while their parents are at work, are always closed when the kids have off from school.
