WASHINGTON
Military prosecutors said Friday they plan to seek new charges against the alleged mastermind of the 2000 bombing of the destroyer Cole.
The announcement follows Attorney General Eric Holder's decision a week ago to place Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, a Saudi of Yemeni descent, among 10 high-profile detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, who will face justice in the United States.
Five are headed to civilian court in New York.
Five others, including al-Nashiri, will go before military commissions.
The prosecutors said they are reviewing the other four cases identified by the attorney general as being appropriate for trial before a military commission.
Seventeen U.S. sailors were killed aboard the Norfolk-based Cole on Oct. 12, 2000, in Yemen when two al-Qaida terrorists set off explosives as they pulled their fishing boat up to the destroyer.

Yawn - Show Trials Accomplish Nothing
These show trials are not going to get us any closer to winning the war on terror, In fact it will give them what they want: be maryters, publicity and a drain on our economic and tax-payer resources. We are trillions in debt and the enemy has only gotten stronger in the past eight years not weaker. (heres how: Pakistan has the bomb, Iran is gonna get the bomb, the dollar is weak, china supports us by buying bonds)
I am not sure what we are thinking these days? We have only won 2 wars DECISIVELY since WWII, invasion of Greneda (a little caribbean island) and the invasion of panama. We need to understand that money spent on re-convicting those already in capitvity comes from money that could be used to create jobs, build schools etc. All of these guys we caught have demonstrated that they are more than willing to die for their cause and in fact death is their victory. These families needing closure need to think about the big pictures. Their public closure is also a victory for the terrorists.
