ERA branch has grand opening

ERA Real Estate Professionals has opened a branch in the business strip by Lowe’s off Starmount Parkway. Co-owners Tom and Amy Groves along with branch manager Delaine Wood were on hand at the grand opening to show area agents , friends and neighbors the new site. Positioned in the tri-city area, the branch is handling commercial properties, new construction and resales. Their other branches are in the Kempsville area in Virginia Beach and in Newport News. Tom opened his first location in 1996.

Paws to Read started at Russell Memorial Library five or six years ago to foster kids’ self-confidence in their reading skills as they read to dogs. I dropped by the library one day and saw a few of these mild-mannered dogs. Books included Halloween selections and Dr. Seuss, and the little ones enjoyed snuggling up to their cuddly companions. Children’s librarian assistant Donna Rushing said the dogs had been trained by Therapy Dogs International. “People say they like our program because we keep it small. Parents are more comfortable with that.”  

  For moms of tots age 15 through 36 months, here’s your chance to bring more music and fun into your child’s life. At the Western Branch Community Center on Mondays through Nov. 30, come enjoy a fun-filled hour of singing, dancing and finger plays at 9:30 a.m. Toddlers learn about musical instruments and rhythm. They’ll also make a musical craft each week. Don’t forget to wear something comfortable. The $25 fee includes parent/grandparent and covers supplies.

      Amory’s Seafood Restaurant was rocking on a recent Thursday night when The 60’s Beat, a Beatles tribute duo, performed  three sets, the songlist included favorites  I had a blast playing the tambourine with the band as they sang “Day Tripper.” The local duo is really talented. Billed as “A Fab Fun Flashback Show,” it is one of the many of Tim Beasley’s Celebrity Stars shows that he performs all over the country. In this show, he played John Lennon, but he does many different rock and country singers, as well as television stars.   Check Amory’s calendar for upcoming musical acts.
