NORFOLK

Damage assessment teams from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will continue touring Hampton Roads today.

The teams on Monday began documenting damage from last week's nor'easter. The results will help determine whether Virginia is eligible for federal disaster assistance.

Gov. Timothy M. Kaine toured storm-ravaged neighborhoods in Ocean View and Hampton on Saturday and said he would push for FEMA money and look at the state's contingency budget.

Representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration and state and local officials will join the FEMA teams to look at damage.

The assessments should be complete by midweek.

I've lived in a number of places before coming to Ocean View. Been through at least 4 tornadoes, couple hurricanes, and too many blizzards and ice storms. This nor'easter was bad. I haven't seen anything like this in a while.

storm damage removal - VB will not pick up logs and limbs

An out-of-town tree service cut up a large fallen pine and put the logs and limbs on the curb for city pick. When I went to the vbgov.com to check on the log size limitations I learned VB will NOT pick up trees that have been cut up by a private contractor. Should I pay these guys to take away these logs and limbs (hauling charge is double the tree service), or will disposal be provided by FEMA?

There is going to be a big problem in VB with huge piles of tree damage which the homeowner expects to be picked up by the City. I don't need to put out any more money for this storm and surely don't want to pay for a service that our tax dollars will cover through FEMA. I am quite certain storm damage from Isabelle was taken care of by the City. Any thoughts?
