RICHMOND

Brandyn Harvey made a one-handed grab of Chris Whitney's fourth-down pass for a 29-yard touchdown with 59 seconds left and Villanova stunned Richmond 21-20 Saturday night.

The Wildcats (8-1, 5-1 Colonial Athletic Association) ended a 17-game winning streak by Richmond, the defending national champions of the Football Championship Subdivision.

Villanova also beat the Spiders (8-1, 6-1) for the second year in a row, and did it after the Spiders went ahead for the first time with 2:22 left.

Richmond missed two field goals and two extra points, including the one after the go-ahead touchdown, as those failures proved to be the difference in the game.

The Spiders even gained one final chance to win it with a kick when they drove to the Wildcats' 17 with 10 seconds left, but Andrew Howard's 35-yard field goal try was wide left.

The Wildcats led almost all game until Kendall Gaskins powered in from the 1 with 2:22 left..
