Mathieson files for 21st House District recount

Posted to: Elections News Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH

Del. Bobby Mathieson has petitioned the Virginia Beach Circuit Court for a recount of the 21st House District race results. He lost the election to Virginia Beach City Councilman Ron Villanueva by 14 votes and qualifies for a city-paid recount.

Both parties are expected to be in court Tuesday, when the time and procedure for the recount will likely be set.

Gary C. Byler, an attorney for Villanueva, said he does not expect the recount to change the outcome of the election.

Both sides are continuing fundraising efforts to pay for legal fees related to the recount. Gov.-elect Bob McDonnell will headline an event on Dec. 10, for Villanueva, Byler said.

Mathieson has gone to his backers for additional money, said campaign manager Mark Henson.

every vote?

No paper trail, no hard record.

Now it's all 1's and 0's. You never really know if your vote is counted, do you?
