More than 99 percent of power customers who were left in the dark after the nor'easter slammed the region last week have had their power restored.

About 270,000 Dominion Virginia Power customers between Williamsburg and Nags Head, N.C., lost power after the storm's peak Thursday evening. By comparison, about 615,000 of Dominion's customers in the region - or about 95 percent - were without electricity as a result of Hurricane Isabel in 2003.

As of 9 p.m. Monday, about 30 customers were still powerless in southeast Virginia, according to the Dominion Web site.

Harry Mitchell, a Verizon Communications spokesman, couldn't provide numbers from the company's service outages Monday. He wrote in an e-mail that workers are constantly restoring service and they expect repair reports to be "back to normal" early next week.

Cox Communications Inc. had widespread outages among its customers, mostly resulting from the loss of electricity. At the height of the storm, Cox estimates that more than 100,000 customers were without service. As of Monday afternoon, about 800 customers - most in Norfolk - were still without service, Cox spokeswoman Felicia Blow said in an e-mail.

The company hopes to have all service restored by Wednesday, she said.

Charter Communications workers responded to outages in Suffolk and Nags Head, N.C. during the weekend, but company officials did not provide numbers. All major storm-related outages in the area were restored by Saturday evening, said Charter spokesman John Miller, but isolated repair issues remain.

Appreciation to the linemen

No matter how frustrated you may be with your loss of electricity and the length of time is is/was taking, you MUST appreciate the linemen and the dangerous, wet, cold (or hot) work that they do! They are told by their superiors when and where to go. Give the true field personnel all the appreciation they deserve! They are hard workers subjected to adverse conditions. I thank them!!!

well done Cox

Congratulations to Cox for hooking a generator up to your box in our neighborhood - huge morale boost to have cable even though no power for our TV's!

Always impressed

I am always impressed with thee guys. I saw a convoy of them coming down the street at 11pm the other night. It seems like anywhere, anytime, anyplace these guys get the job done. A well managed company.

power...

Thank you to all the linemen and groundspeople working throughout the storm and for the last couple of days. Thank goodness we were prepared and luckily we had a generator but I know so many others probably didn't. However all of our preparedness paled in comparison when our power was finally restored. I know these men and women work hard and I for one appreciate you! Thanks again!

Actually...

The number of outages are down to less then 27,000 in the hampton roads area. Thats down from 197,000 two days ago. The restoration effort seems to be going very well from where I see it. And to clarify there are about 100 employees working per 5000 customers out, it's not as easy as some think to be every where at once. Good job Dominion Crews and support staff who work around the clock missing their families and to get the lights back on. Much appreciated!!

Ha this storm has been

Ha this storm has been terrible the past two days and our electricity was not effected...its almost over today and guess what, NO ELECTRICITY! Thank God for generators...

Dominion VA Power is a

Dominion VA Power is a joke! We have trees resting on live wires in our neighborhood and they have not even been out. This was reported to Dom last night at 7:00 and they best they can say is they are working on it. Really??? How is that???

Prioritization

They have a sophisticated system that prioritizes restoration. DOM does an EXCELLENT job restoring power. It's in their best interest to restore power because they are not making $ by keeping you in the dark. it will come....until then, pull your head out of the sand and get a clue as to what happened here.

Be patient!

You're frustrated-that's understandable. But look at the bigger picture and realize that they can't do it all at once.

land of the selfish

Dominion has an army of thousands just to meet your needs is a typical arogant attitude that gets my goat. My power is out, and you don't hear me complaining, because I have realistic expectations.

OUTAGE MAP

Here is the link for the Dominion Power outage map:

You can also click on the interactive map to zoom in closer to neighborhoods.

And one more link

This is the interactive link, you can get more detail from it than the other two links I posted:

thank you both very much!

Checking right now while I still have power. The power in indeed now coming in and out here at Rose Hall Apartments off of VA Bch Blvd behind the Francis Land House. I think I heard some transformers blow but can't be sure because of where I am tucked in at. Again thanks for the linkS!

where?

where in southeast Virginia? Certain neighborhoods tend to lose power before others so knowing which areas would be very helpful.

Dominion Outages

If you go to the Outage Reporting Web page at http://www.dom.com/storm-center/reporting-outages.jsp

There are links to a few maps of outages. In particular I like the one at http://outagemap.dom.com/DomComFlexOutageViewer/index.html.
