Ashley and Davida Coleman enjoy coming home to the peace and quiet that Brewers Meadow offers. The Suffolk community, developed by VICO Construction on former farmland, was started in 2006. The Colemans found it two years later and moved into their new home in September 2008.
After living in a one-bedroom apartment in the Greenbrier section of Chesapeake for two years, the couple was anxious and ready to purchase their own home.
"We just happen ed to take a ride out to Suffolk and stumbled upon the development," said Davida, 35. "We fell in love with the model."
They purchased The Wallaceton, a 3,600-square-foot home built by Hearndon Construction with five bedrooms, a room over the garage and three full bathrooms.
"It took our breath away," Davida Coleman said.
When completed, Brewers Meadow, located off the U.S. 58 Bypass, will feature 132 single-family homes: Hearndon Construction is building 51, Napolitano Homes is also building 51 and the remaining homes are being constructed by individual builders.
Timothy and Christine O'Leary, both 27, were also in search of peace and quiet when they decided to move from a single-family home in Port Norfolk. After five years in a historical home in Portsmouth, they began their search and found Brewers Meadow within a month.
They moved into The Cedar model - a five-bedroom home with a room over the garage, a sunroom and 2.5 baths, in May 2008.
"We liked the ruralness of Suffolk," Christine said. "We love it here. The people are nice, and the commute isn't bad. And one thing's for sure: We sleep a lot better at night."
