Golf-course living may not be for everyone, but it's ideal for Chris Capozzi and his girlfriend, Lauren Simonsen.
The couple moved into Suffolk's Fairways Crossing in May. The community is aptly named for its location - beginning by the crossover from the ninth to 10th holes on Nansemond River Golf Course and ending near the crossover from the sixth to the seventh holes.
Capozzi, 46, and Simonsen, 36, purchased the Keswick model, a three-bedroom, 2-1/2-bath home across from the eighth hole.
After two years of renting a condominium in Chesapeake's Greenbrier section, Capozzi and Simonsen decided it was time to buy.
As a land surveyor who works throughout the area, Capozzi said he saw a great deal of potential in Fairways Crossing - just off Hillpoint Boulevard - and wanted to be a part of it.
"I liked the access off the bypass, and the pricing is advantageous to buying something 20 to 30 years old," said Capozzi, an avid golfer.
The community, located on former farmland, was developed in 2005 by Fairways Crossing LLC. All of the 82 single-family homes are built by Etheridge Construction and feature seven different models starting at $249,900.
"All of the homes under construction overlook the Nansemond River Golf Course," said Ed Holster, a Realtor with Rose & Womble Realty. Co
Ten houses have sold since the end of January, he added.
Homes feature plank exterior siding, brushed-nickel plumbing and lighting fixtures, textured walls and ceilings, spacious kitchens and master bedrooms with vaulted ceilings.
Peter and Erin Clemow, both 40, were looking for a place to call home once he returned from Afghanistan. The Navy lieutenant commander, his wife and their 4-year-old son spent several years in a 1,500-square-foot apartment in military housing in Maryland before moving into their Turnberry model in May.
The first-time buyers fell in love with the area around Fairways Crossing.
"It's a wonderful community and so picturesque," said Erin, whose home is on the golf course. " We like that no one can build behind us."
