Newport News police seek man released from jail by mistake

Police are asking for the public’s help locating a 23-year-old man who was released from jail by mistake.

Christopher Devon Barrett was being held on a charge of possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, according to a statement from police.

On Nov. 5, Barrett was released from Hampton Roads Regional Jail by mistake, according to police who were notified on Tuesday that warrants had been issued for him.

Barrett, who police say should be considered armed and dangerous, is described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall and 150 pounds, according to police. He is known to visit the 700 block of 48th St., the 2900 block of Madison Ave. and the 1200 block of Hampton Ave. His last known address was in the 400 block of Crescent Way.
