NORFOLK
Residents of a home on Mapleton Drive were displaced Saturday afternoon after a fire caused serious damage to the structure, officials said.
The fire started in the garage of the home in the 2800 block of Mapleton Drive, shortly after noon, said Battalion Chief Harry Worley, a Norfolk Fire-Rescue spokesman. It quickly spread to the kitchen and second story of the home, causing serious damage, he said.
The residents evacuated to a neighbor's home and were not injured, Worley said.
Four engines, a ladder truck, heavy rescue, a battalion chief and a medic unit responded to the scene, he said. It took nearly an hour to extinguish the blaze.
