NORFOLK
The city will accept sealed paint cans at all its bulk waste drop-off sites following last week’s nor’easter.
Paint should not be placed at the curbside for trash pickup because paint cans are prone to leaking and must be properly disposed of to avoid pollution, the city news release said.
Drop-off sites will be open every day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Nov. 22.
Sealed paint cans will be accepted at the following sites:
- The Virginia Zoo parking lot, 3500 Granby St., in the back.
- Tarrallton Park, 2165 Helsey St.
- Community Beach parking lot, 100 W. Ocean View Ave., across from the senior center at Norfolk Avenue.
- Powhatan Field parking lot, behind Old Dominion University on Powhatan Avenue between 43rd. and 49th. streets.
- East Ocean View Avenue and Shore Drive, 4110 E. Ocean View Ave. on the east side of Ships Cabin Restaurant.
Any other household hazardous waste should be taken to the SPSA facility at the Virginia Beach Landfill, 1991 Jake Sears Road. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

i look at my bill
and see red. its irrational. my trash bill is so high i think about it and my head explodes! most of it is this supposed recycling program they have hidden in the bill. the first failed so they gave me to bigger cans and tripled the price before they hid the actual cost. i should be able to put nuclear waste in my trash cans for what i pay. im one person but, because the way my house is zoned i get to pay double. its wonderful my trash bill is higher than my heat. doh! i wish these thieves liars bandits crooks liars would stop making the news.
