NEWPORT NEWS
Police are investigating a double-shooting that left one woman dead early this morning.
Police received a call just after 4 a.m. from a man stating that he’d been shot, according to police spokeswoman Holly McPherson.
Police responded to the Heritage Trace Apartments on Heritage Way, where they found a black Volkswagen Passat with four occupants. Two of them were suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to their upper bodies.
The 29-year-old male driver was taken to the hospital. The 42-year-old female front seat passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, at approximately 4:16 a.m. She has been identified as Gale Perch, of the 300 block of Circuit Lane in Newport News.
A 23-year-old male and a 22-year-old female in the back seat were not injured. They are being interviewed, but “are not very forthcoming about the events of the evening,” McPherson said in a statement.
Police have determined the shooting took place in the parking lot of River Trace Apartments, located in the Denbigh area of the city. Police currently have no suspects available.
